THE SAMUEL DRODY FAMILY OF MASSACHUSETTS
In order to know our own Drody history it has been necessary to research any Drody I come across to try to ascertain if they belong on our family tree on the direct lineage.
I have learned all I could about this Samuel Drody, but I still do not know how he may fit into our family. I know he should somehow, but don’t know how.
Samuel Drody served as a Revolutionary soldier enlising in Roxbury, Massachusets in a Train of Artillery commanded by Col. Knox. He was in the Battle of Plymouth, the Battle of New York where he was wounded – loosing eyesight in one eye.. He served in Pvt. Col. John Bailey’s Massachusetts line; Capt Earle Clapp’s Co. “P” and aboard Ship “Adventurer” of Boston, 1782.
He was Scotch-Irish, born in 1752/ died May 1, 1824 – a life line very much like our known ancestor William Drody who born 1754; died in Missouri. in June of 1824. Could his Dad and William’s Dad have been brothers? did they come in at the Boston Port of Immigration and one stayed there and one proceeded on to Virginia? Some of the names used by parents for their off spring in Massachusetts are like those used by parents of the off spring of our lineage: “Preston C.”, “Charles”, “James”, “William”

about three weeks after he returned from the Army per test. of Sarah;.

Samuel and then Sarah as his widow applied for his Revolutionary War pension. Sarah applied November 1838 at nearly 79 years of age.
When Samuel applied in 1820 his property was listed as follows:
one half of a house, one story high, and three acres of land and one half of a cow, ...(?) six old chairs, two tables, two iron pots and my family consists of my wife, aged sity-two years and a widowed daughter Sally Hallet, aged twenty eight years in health, but myself and wife both weak and infirm. I have no income, but am in debt twenty five dollars and that I have no trade or occupation, but a laborer. I was wounded in New York and lost the sight of one eye. signed Samuel Drody”
