Biography
Johann Pieter Du Moulin aka John Peter Du Moulin was born about 1816 at Holland. John was the child of Jacobus du Moulin aka James Andrew Du Moulin and Jane Davidson.
John arrived in Sydney, Australia on the Rosslyn Castle on 18 September 1834 with his parents and siblings as the family accompanied his father and the 50th Regiment of Foot.[1]
He arrived in New Zealand in 1839 and served through the New Zealand Wars of 1845 and also the wars in Wellington and Whanganui districts and the Taranaki and Waikato campaigns. He was an officer of the commissariat staff.
After the Waikato campaign John retired from service. [2]
He maried Mary Tighe in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand at the age of 37.
John Peter Du Moulin age 84 died on 1 January 1901 at his residence Symonds Street, Auckland, New Zealand.[3][4]
John was buried on 3 January 1901.
He was survived by his widow and a son, Major Louis Du Moulin, of the First Royal Sussex Regiment, serving in South Africa.[5]
