Biography

Morris Dudley Dulaney was born on 7 June 1886 in Hazelhurst, Copiah County, Mississippi, United States.[1][2] His parents were Charles Dulaney and Annie Core.[3]

He registered for the draft as Morris "Douglas" Dulaney during The Great War on 5 June 1917, in Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. He was described as tall and of medium build, with brown eyes and hair. He claimed to have prior military service for three years, serving the Mississippi state militia as a Private.[1]

Morris was inducted in the U.S. Army at Covington, Louisiana, on 18 September 1917. He was assigned to Ambulance Company No. 155 in the 7th Corps, Sanitary Train, 39th Division, on 14 November 1917, and was promoted to Sergeant on 30 January 1918. Morris was shipped overseas on 21 August 1918, achieving the rank of Sergeant 1st class on 15 May 1919. He returned to the United States on 30 June 1919 and was honorably discharged on 11 July 1919.[4][5][6]

He married Mary Mable Nora Rivet, daughter of Joseph Augustin Rivet and Coralie Dupont, on 21 May 1921.[7][3]

Morris and Mabel were enumerated during the 1930 census, living in Roseland, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. Also living with them was his 17-year-old nephew, Howard Cannon. Morris worked as a machinist for a box factory, and rented their home for $20 per month.[8]

By 1940 they had moved to Alexandria, Rapides Parish, where they were enumerated during the census at 1104 Fifth Street. Their nephew Howard and his family lived nearby.[9]

He registered for the fourth draft (the "old man's draft") for World War II on 26 April 1942. He and his wife were living at 3200 Lee in Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. He was employed with the State Department of Agriculture and Immigration. Morris was described as 5 feet 11 1/2 inches tall, 158 pounds, with brown eyes and hair and ruddy complexion.[2]
