William was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, in 1885. His mother was Mary Dumbell. He is listed as a "Stepson to Joseph Currie in the 1891 census, so he was apparently born out of wedlock to Mary. William remained with his family through at least 1901. He passed away in December of 1906 at the Liverpool Workhouse. His death was registered under both last names of Currie, and Dumbell. Each of the registrations listed the same volume, and page, but different line numbers. William was buried on December 16, 1906, in Liverpool, at Walton Park Cemetery. The register lists his abode at time of death as the Liverpool Workhouse, and lists him as William Currie "Otherwise Dumbell". He was twenty one.
