Anne (Ann) was born on 15 August 1827[1] at Latheron, Caithness, Scotland, and baptised on 6 September at Latheron[2]. She was the daughter of George Duncan and Christian (Christina) Grant.
In 1841 she aged 12 was living with her mother Christian (a tenant crofter aged 50) and three siblings - Betty (aka Elspet or Elizabeth) (20), William (an agricultural labourer aged 18) and George (16) - at Achnacraig, Caithness[3]. In 1851 she was a house servant in the Harvey household - James and Helen and their children - Thomas (5), James (3), Janet (2) and Elizabeth (3 months) - at Ausdale, Berriedale[4]. She was aged 21 and born in Caithness.
She married James Harvey on 25 June 1852[5]. James and Ann had six children, three in Scotland and three in New Zealand.
Ann (Duncan) Harvey migrated from Scotland to New Zealand.
She emigrated to New Zealand with her husband and his six children in 1857 sailing from London on the Ashburton on 7 August and arriving in Wellington on 26 November 1857[15]. Her mother Christina and her sister Jane came with them. The family settled in the Wairarapa.
Ann died on 10 March 1867[16] at the residence of Reverend J Ross in Masterton, Wairarapa[17]
Harvey. — On March 10, at the residence of the Rev J. Ross, Masterton, Wairarapa, Ann, the beloved wife of James Harvey, aged 39 years. Deeply regretted by all who know her.
She was buried in Archer Street Cemetery, Masterton Plot Area V, Row 1[1].
Research Notes
Ann's mother has now been conclusively found from records. No baptism records have been found for George or William, Helen's death record or Christina's birth record. (Dickson-4413 23:32, 26 April 2024 (UTC))
