Erik was born in Vendel parish 9 July 1804 to soldier Anders Elg in Alberga and his wife Anna Maria Hagman.[1][2] He grew up with his parents and left home in 1821, when he was nearly seventeen.[3][4]
Erik Elg returned to his widowed mother in Vendel from Stockholm in 1841, as a former life guardist. The parish filed a protest against receiving him (he may have been consumptive already at this time).[5] He found work with a farmer in Alberga, but went to Björklinge parish in 1842.[6] There he served at Läby. He is noted in the margin as consumptive. He married Anna Greta Jansdotter in 1844.[7]They went back to Vendel in 1847.[8] There is a note that Eric Elg got a permit in 1850 to go to Stockholm alone to find work.[9][10]
Erik Elg succumbed to his consumption 22 December 1855.[11]
