Vital records for Granby list this birth:
-illegitimate Twins born July 1850, mother: Lorinda Elkey , father: Starling Elkey, colored farmer.[3]
The FamilySearch database for this record shows Starling as the name of a child but lists Lorinda as father.[4]
The twins may have been adopted or died young. Or, one of them may be Mary Josephine Elkey (born 27 JUL 1850), who is usually assumed to be Lorinda's younger sister. Since the 1850 census was taken 1 august, Mary should be listed with Sterling and Rachel, if they're her parents.
The father "Starling Elkey" listed in the records may be Lorinda's father, her brother John Sterling, or one of her cousins. Or they lied on the form.
Death
Lorinda died 11 Mr 1866 in Granby, Connecticut.
