Jerry Elkin, second son of Howard and Reba (Cooke) Elkin, was born in Madison County, Kentucky, October 15, 1930. His father was a clerk in Porter Moore Drugstore in Berea, Kentucky, and his mother was a cook and bookkeeper. He had an older brother, Glenn Ray, who also served in the military.
