DEATHS - DISTRESSING EVENT. Died in this town, on Tuesday morning last, Mrs. Lucy Hartshorn, wife of Mr. Edward Hartshorn, aged 68. Nothing which has transpired in our village, __ ___ years, has cast such a gloom upon it, as the afflictive event which resulted in the death of Mrs. H. last Sabbath afternoon, as the people were dispersing from church, the horse attached to the wagon in which Mrs. H. and a young woman who resided with her, had seated themselves, suddenly started, as the young man who accompanied them was getting in, throwing him from the wagon, and the reins with him. The horse being without control, ran a short distance, and in the act of turning a corner, brought the fore wheel of the wagon in contact with a post, throwing the ladies from the wagon, and the wagon directly onto Mrs. H. She was taken up perfectly senseless, and carried to a neighboring house, where she remained in the same situation, till 6 o'clock Tuesday morning, when death put an end to her suffering. She has left an aged partner, and a large circle of children and relatives, to mourn her sudden departure. But they do not mourn as those without hope. Mrs. Hartshorn has for many years been a professed, consistent, and devoted follower of Christ, and her friends are consoled by the hope that this afflictive event of God's Providence, has but borne her from the earthly temple of her God, where she had so long and so often worshipped, to that temple not made with hands, eternal and on high, where she wil evermore praise and adore Him who has called her to himself. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." [The Farmers' Cabinet, Amherst, New Hampshire, 2 Jun 1837]
