Biography

Francis was born in 1683. He was the son of Thomas Ellis.

Francis married 28 August 1715, Joan Maxwell. They had among other children,

1. Henry, Governor of Georgia and Nova Scotia, and Vice- Admiral, High Sheriff, and Provost Marshal of Grenada, Tobago, St. Vincent and Dominica, F.R.S., b. 29 August 1721  ; died unmarried 21 January 1806, at Naples.
2. Robert of Draper Hill, Lisnaskea, co. Fermanagh, b. 11 January 1726 ; married Penelope Leslie, daughter of Rev. Alexander Leslie, of Aghnaloo, co. Fermanagh

He died in 1773. Will dated 18 April, 1770, proved 4 Sept. 1773.
