John and Sarah are first cousins; they were both descendants of Abner Lord.
John Ely, b. 10 June, 1797, at Bethel, Conn., son of Rev. John Ely and Mary Lord, of Madison, Conn. He was a merchant and afterwards a lawyer; and m. Sarah Colt, b. 25 Aug., 1809, at Marietta, Ohio. They were living at New York in 1859. They had five children, who died in infancy, and had four other children then living:
1. Mary Lord, b. 31 May, 1834; m- Richard Payson.
2. John Andrews, b. 24 Oct., 1836; grad. at the New York Free Academy, now the College of the City of N. Y., and was living in Chicago in 1859.
3. Julia Augusta, b. 19 Feb., 1839, and was unm. 1859.
4. Anne Eliza, b. 3 Aug., 1843
