Old Landmark Burned The old Ely home, south of Perry which was over one hundred years old, was burned last Thursday by the insurance company which now owns the property and is engaging in cleaning up the premises and making quite a few improvements in the farm buildings. The old house which had not been occupied for a number of years, was built of logs and in the south end had a gigantic fireplace which heated rooms on both the first and second floors. The house was a story and a half with four rooms below and two rooms above. Five generations of the Ely family had lived in it. It is thought that it was erected by B.S. Ely's great grandfather. His father, William Ely, passed away in one of the upstairs rooms a number of years ago. Mr. Ely vacated the old home a number of years ago when he built a new two story home north of the old house. His mother passed away just a few years ago in the new house when she was past 90 years old.
