Biography

Mary was born in Crowle, Lincolnshire, England, and was baptised there in 1860. She was the daughter of Maria Emsell.^[1] In 1861 Mary lived on Common Side in Crowle with her mother and older sister.^[2]

In November 1881 Mary married John William Acaster in Swinefleet, Yorkshire.^[3][4] In 1891 the family lived on Swinefleet High Street, where John worked as a farm labourer.^[5] John died in 1893 at the age of "33"^[6] and was buried in Swinefleet.^[7]

In 1895 Mary married Edward Durant in Whitgift, Yorkshire.^[8][9] The family lived in Swinefleet, where Edward worked as a shoemaker.^[10]

At the time of the 1911 census Mary lived in Swinefleet with her daughter, Annie Elizabeth Towner. She worked on a farm.^[11] Meanwhile, Edward lived with their son, Tom, in Bottesford, Lincolnshire, and said that he was a widower.^[12]

Mary died in 1931 at the age of 71.^[13]
