Birth and Baptism
- Eric was born on September 25, 1814 at Sorby in Björskog, Västmanland, Sweden. He was the son of the farmhand (dräng) Erik Ersson and his wife Maria Persdotter. He was baptized the same day, on September 25, 1814. His baptismal witnesses were the farmer Per Persson and his wife Greta Cajsa Holm from Haga, the discharged grenadier Nils Bråttberg at Bråttgårds ägor, and the maid Cajsa Persdotter from Bråttgården.
Early Life and Siblings
- Eric grew up in a household that relocated frequently for work, and he tragically experienced the loss of many infant siblings:
- 1816–1817: Lived with his parents at Högsta in Köping country parish.
- 1817–1818: Resided at Holma 2 in Björskog under the former member of parliament (riksdagsman) Samuel Gillberg. His brother Peter was born and died here in July 1818.

During this period, his mother gave birth to twin brothers, Peter and Anders, in January 1823, who both died in March 1823. Another brother named Pehr was born and died within three days in March 1827. Finally, a surviving brother, Pehr, was born on June 21, 1829.
Employment as a Farmhand
- Upon reaching his late teens, Eric began working independently as a farmhand (dräng), moving almost annually between various estates in Västmanland:
- 1830–1832: Worked at Gräsnäs 2 and Gräsnäs 6, before moving to Lång Täby 2 in 1832.
- 1833–1836: Employed by farmer Lars Mathsson at Sorby, before moving to Hamre in Arboga country parish in late 1833.
- 1836–1841: Returned to Björskog in 1836, working at Virsta, Uknö (1836–1837), Västra Eknö (1837–1838), the Komministergård at Nåberga (1838–1839), an Akademihemman (1839–1840), and Lådberga (1840–1841).
- 1841–1842: Resided at Vavle (Wafle), Björskog.
Marriage and Family Life
- Eric married Brita Stina Jonsdotter Säbom from Örberga on November 13, 1842 in Björskog. At the time of their marriage, both were working as servants, and Brita Stina's parents were already deceased.
- Shortly before the wedding, Eric relocated to Gräsnäs, where he met his future wife. They had the following children together:
- Maria Christina: Born April 22, 1843 at Gräsnäs; tragically passed away in 1855.

Later Years
- The family lived at Örberga 3, Björskog, until November 12, 1848, when they migrated to Kung Karl parish. After some years there, during which his mother passed away in Gräsnäs (1852) and his daughter Sophia died (1853), they returned to Björskog in 1854.
- 1854–1892: Eric worked as a contract worker (statkarl or statdräng). For several decades, he and his family were officially registered in Björskog as Utan stadigt hemvist (without a permanent home).
Death
- The former statdräng Eric Ersson passed away on November 13, 1888 in Björskog, Västmanland, at the age of 74. Following his death, his widow Brita Stina and their youngest son eventually moved to the parish poor house.
