Aurelio Escalon was born on 5 June 1911 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Eleno Escalon and Seferina Gonzales.[1] His family was living in a rented house in Hidalgo County, Texas by the 1920 Census; there, he is listed as 9 years old. He did not attend school that year and is unable to read and write.[2] By the 1930 Census, he was living at 816 16th Street in McAllen, Texas with Eloisa Berrones, who is listed as his aunt but is actually his sister-in-law. He did not attend school that year but can read and write. He is a farm worker.[3] At the age of 33, he married Santos Cadena on 10 August 1944 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, México.[4] He died on 1 June 1993.[5]
