Eleanor Paine married an established farmer who was about ten years her senior. She wed in Freetown on 31 January 1787, as his first and only wife, JOHN EVANS, son of John and Ruth (Winslow) Evans, who was born there on 16 November 1747 and died there on 27 January 1806.
Eleanor was appointed guardian on 4 February 1806 to Ruth, Nancy and John, all above 14 years of age, and to Joseph, Eleanor and James, all under 14 years. John Evans' estate was divided on 3 March 1807 to widow Eleanor; sons John, Joseph and James; daughters Eleanor Evans, Ruth, wife of Ambrose Barnaby, and Nancy, wife of Lynde Hathaway.
