Margaret was born in 1897. She passed away about 1988 in Topeka, Kansas.
Research Notes
Here is what I know so far:
Her memorial at FindAGrave lists Evans as her maiden name. Other than this, I only see "E." in all other references that list a maiden name.
The source at "Texas, Death Certificates" below lists Clark Porter Chandler's widow as Mrs. Margaret [Darling] Chandler.
Clark Porter Chandler's memorial at FindAGrave states that he married Margaret E. in 1929 and that this was her first marriage. This jives with what Clark's grand-daughter (my mother) and "Grandmother Margaret" told me during our visits as a kid.
She is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. The Topeka and Shawnee Kansas Public Library has in the archive an obituary for John (Jack) Darling from 17 December 1958.
From all this I take that:
Margaret Evans => Margaret Evans Chandler (? - 1936)
Margaret Evans Chandler => Margaret E. Darling ( > 1936 - 1958)
A birth certificate (Iowa, probably) / marriage certificates (?) would help to sort this out. I have no idea where she and Clark met or married. They did not have children and as far as I know, she and John Darling did not have children either.
I think I'm stuck for the moment until I can figure out how to get obituaries from the Topeka Capitol Journal archived in the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library.
