Biography

John was born about 1808 in North Carolina. While his parentage is unclear, the 1880 US Census mentions that his father was born in North Carolina and his mother was born in Virginia. [1]

On February 8th, 1859 he married Elizabeth Keils. [citation needed]. They had the following children:

It is unknown when John passed away.

Research Notes

This John is sometimes confused with a John Everett that married an Elizabeth and died in 1880 in Tennessee. The 1870 US Census lists one John Everett with wife Elizabeth and children Monroe, Lucy and Walter in Grimes, Pike, Alabama (pg 17)[2] and also another John Everett with wife Elizabeth and children John J., Lucy, Epapry, and Adaline in District 7, Blount, Tennessee. The John that died in Tennessee is not the same one whose children were born in Alabama. [3] This John lived in Alabama.

Many of this John's children and descendants were buried at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church Cemetery located in Pinson (Clay), Alabama. The church did a genealogy on the family but also records this John as passing away in 1880 in Tennessee which is in error. [4]

This John is sometimes shown as being the son of Matthew Averett and Keziah Miller. Matthew was born in Georgia and died in Alabama making it difficult for him to have a North Carolina birth (the 1880 US Census for John shows his father being born in North Carolina). Keziah was also born in Georgia and died in Alabama. [5]
