Biography
Maggie Mundie Ewen was born 1899, her birth registered that year in the Cluny (Aberdeen) registration district, Scotland. She is the daughter of Barbara Cockburn Ewen. [1]
Marriage A certified extract of her marriage to Gordon Coutts is included in his military records. The official marriage index shows she was also known as Maggie Mundie Thow. [2][3]
On 2nd March 1918, the marriage was solemnised at Kirton, Banchory, according to the rites of the Established Church of Scotland, by Banns. The ceremony was performed by James Hall (Minister) and registered with the Parish of Banchory-Ternan Registration District.
Maggie Mundie Ewen was a 19-year-old Shop Assistant, a Spinster, the daughter of Cockburn Ewen. She lived The Lodge, Blackhall Gate, Bancory-Ternan.
Gordon Coutts, a Private, 25th Battalion, A.I.F., was 24 years old, a Bachelor, and the son of William Coutts, Farmer (deceased). His address was Gordonvale, Cairns, Queensland, Australia.
After their marriage, her husband was docked several days pay for going AWL. He subsequently returned to his unit in France but soon fell ill and spent some time in hospital. At the end of the war, he was sent back to Australia, and discharged about June 1919.
Emigration to Australia.
Widowed. In 1947, her husband was killed following a truck accident.
Death. Maggie died in 1996 in Queensland Australia and is buried in the Forest View Cemetery, Cairns. [4]
