Biography

John was born about 1578. He passed away in 1628.

Marriage of John Farrar of Midgley and Mary Oldfield 6 October 1600 at Halifax, Yorkshire.[1][2]

Research Notes

No burial found in the Halifax register on or around 27 October 1628. Ancestry trees which give this date say burial at Hartshead, but no entry found in the register, link attached for searching.[3] The source given on some of these trees for the Hartshead burial is a probate 28 May 1628, several months before the death. The probate is for John Ferrar husband of Cecily Kelke, who is shown as the father of this John Farrar in many of the trees. John Farrar and Cecily Keke did have a son John, who has an existing profile at John Ferrar. He is said to be of Brearley in Midgley. His first marriage is shown as 1611 to Dorothy Hanson, following the pedigree in Foster.[4]

There was another John Farrer of Midgley at this time, son of Henry, who had land transactions with a Robert Farrer of Thornton, Bradford.[5] His father Henry had died in 1605 leaving a will which mentions his eldest son John, and a Thomas Oldfield was a supervisor and witness, perhaps a relation of Mary.[6] Henry Farrer has an existing profile at Henry Farrer but a different son John appears to be attached at the moment.

John's place of birth has me puzzled - Yorkshire, Christ Church, Barbados! Is this correct please?

Kind regards

Alan Farrar

Was an error, should have been Christ Church (probably Halifax Parish), Yorkshire.

Was in a hurry I guess, didn't catch that wikitree had inserted Barbados, when I typed in Christ Church. I don't think there is a town in Yorkshire called Christ Church, and that was probably where he was baptized.

Anyway corrected. Thanks
