Born by 1523 Thomas Fermor, of Horde Park, Bridgnorth, Salop and Somerton, Oxon, was the fourth son of Richard Fermor and his wife, Anne Brown. [1]
By 1552 he had a wife, Frances (Horde) Fermor (abt.1530-1570), daughter of Thomas Horde of Horde Park in Shropshire, and widow of Edward Raleigh of Farthinghoe in Northamptonshire. She died in 1570. [1]
Thomas was the heir of his uncle, William Fermor MP (1480-1552) who, despite his four marriages died without issue in 1552. Thomas became Lord of the Manor of Somerton, Oxfordshire from 1552-1580. The village school in Somerton which lasted for four centuries was built due to an endowment left by Thomas in his will. [2]
Thomas was returned to parliament as member for Brackley in 1553 and for Shropshire in 1558. [1]
His second wife was Bridget (Bradshaw), daughter of Henry Bradshaw of Halton in Buckinghamshire and widow of Henry White of South Warnborough in Hampshire. They were parents of a son, Richard Fermor and at least two daughters; Anne d 12 Apr 1575 and Mary.[1][3]
Thomas Fermor and Bridget/Brigitta's son, Richard Fermor married Cornelia Cornwallis, daughter of William Cornwallis and Lucy Neville. Richard was the first of several generations of Fermors to settle in Tusmore, Oxfordshire. [1][3]
Thomas passed away on the 8th of August 1580.[1]
Thomas, Bridget (Bradshaw) Fermor and their son, Richard Fermor are all buried at The Church of St. James in Somerton, Oxford, England, resplendent in beautifully carved memorials. [2]
