Virtually nothing is known about Ursula, wife of Edmund Hungerford. She was likely born circa 1530 or earlier given the date of her marriage in 1548 (for which no surname is recorded).
Reverend J.E. Jackson, who studied the Hungerford families extensively, noted "some say [Edmund's wife was] Ursula Frognall, but she was wife to his brother Edward." [1]
Ursula is most likely the Ursula, daughter of Margaret Ferrers, widow of Nicholas Ferrers, named in the Will of Thomas Darell of Scotney in 1558 who married Margaret's mother, Alice Whetenhall, as his second wife. [2] The coat of arms attributed to Ursula in a wall hanging in Down Ampney is that of the Baddisley Clinton Ferrers family (gu. seven mascles or, a canton erm.) which would be correct for this family.
Ursula's mother-in-law was a Darell, and the name Ursula was fairly common in the Baddesley Clinton Ferrers family. If her sister-in-law Ursula Frognall, was, as suspected the daughter of Thomas Frognall and Margaret Ferrers and sister of Constance Frognall, then she would have been first cousin to this Ursula Ferrers, as both would be granddaughters of Sir Edward Ferrers and Constance Brome.
"The 29 daie of December 1598 was buried Misteris Ursula Hungerford, the wife of Mr. Edmond Hungerford, esquier."
