Biography

Nathaniel Fiennes, son of William Fiennes, 1st Viscount and 8th Baron Saye and Sele and Elizabeth Temple, had by his second wife Frances Whitehead, Celia Fiennes and three other daughters. Celia's stepmother was Elizabeth Eliot, by whom her father had Nathaniel Fiennes and William Fiennes. Thus, she was the half-sister of William Fiennes, 3rd Viscount Saye and Sele.

Celia was an early traveler and writer who chronicled some of her sojourns, most notably in a post-humous published volume: Feinnes, Celia. Through England on a Side Saddle in the Time of William and Mary, Being the Diary of Celia Fiennes. 1888. London: Field and Tuer, The Leadenhall Press. Published with an introduction by Emily Wingfield Griffiths, whose father was the 13th Baron Seye and Sele.[1]
