Notes
- Note N16Gordon Figler was born on April 21st, 1921 the youngest son of Lorenz and Kathleen Figler. Gordon took his schooling at the Stoughton school. After the death of his mother in 1935 Gordon found it difficult living at home with his father and after talking with his older brother George, he chose to leave home at the young age of fourteen years, travel to Regina ninety miles away and get a job with the Bridge building gang of the C.P.R. Gordon enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and spent four years in the force during World War 11. Gordon married his lovely bride Joreon ( Jerry ) in 1947. He worked with Len McAlpine in the construction business for three years at Ladysmith on Vancouver Island. He also worked as Foreman for J.S. Johnson Construction in Vancouver for two years. Having gained extensive experience in the construction business Gordon started his own company when he moved onto Vancouver Island and continued in business until he retired in 1975. Gordon and his wife retired at Mill Bay on Vancouver Island. ( In 1976 Gordon phoned the Stoughton Town Administration Office to see if there was anyone left in Stoughton who remembered the Figler Family. He said his brother George had lived there all his life. The purpose of his call was to try and find a record of his birth as he wished to get a passport to travel. To his astonishment the Town Administrator said " I know the Family well " I'm your nephew Gerry- George's son. Gordon's birth was recorded in the Lutheran Church records and it was at this time that Gerry found out that the Family name in German was spelled Vogler and on occasion Voegler.) Having retired quite young Gordon soon became bored and took a job with Beaver Lumber preparing estimates. He continued working until 1983 at which time he retired forgood. Gordon and Jerry had three children, one daughter and two sons. In 1972 when Gordon and Jerry celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary the decorations were silver however no trace of silver could be found in their dark hair.
