John H. Fischer of Staunton passed away Wednesday, January 11, at the family home. A son of the late Henry and Margaret (Doyle) Fischer, he was born July 29. 1891 in Illinois and had attained age 86 at time of death.
He married Esther Hawkins on October 30, 1917, in Mt Olive. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Lucille Fischer of Staunton. Mrs Mary E. Stutz of Alton and Mrs Rita A. Johnson of Monmouth, one son, William H. Fischer of Staunton, a brother. Edward D. Fischer of Staunton, and 12 grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Mr Fischer had been employed as a postal clerk in the Staunton Post office for 45 years retiring from that position during 1953. He was a member of St Michael the Archangel Church, Knights of Columbus Chapter 2197, and 4th Degree Patrick F. Carroll Assembly Knights of Columbus.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday January 14, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Staunton by Father David Peters. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Landers Funeral Home in Staunton was in charge of arrangements. [Ref: Staunton Star Times, Jan 19, 1978]
