Biography

William M. Firtzgerald was born in Apr of 1836 in Jackson Township, Pa to John William Fitzgerald and Ann Ackley. He is found with them there in the 1850 census. He married Mary M. Whitsel on Nov. 31, 1868 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The family of his young wife and two children: John C. and Luther are found in the 1870 Census In West, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. His father, aged 80 is also listed in the household. Other children listed in the census are Newton, Laura Bell, Samuel W., Jessie Elmer and Carrie. In 1900, William is still in Baree in Huntingdon County. By the 1910 and 1920 census, he is listed as an inmate in an institution in Mechanicsburg, Illinois. He died there on Apr 2, 1920 and he is buried there in the Sagamon County Home Cemetery.
