For the interest of others. Daphne was my maternal Grandmother. My Mother Moira was her daughter & one of twins. All my Mother knew was that Daphne's Father was William Fletcher and her Mother was a young woman named Meriel who died in childbirth, when Daphne was born. It was my Mum's lifelong wish to know more but she has now passed away. All we know is that it was William's 2nd marriage. He had 2 daughters Beth and Mary from his first marriage. The story goes that William was so heart sore at losing his young wife he went to America to work for Vickers. However he left his baby daughter well cared for in England, where her 2 older sisters also assisted in her care. Her eldest sister Beth became the matron at Gifford House in Worthing, caring for wounded soldiers. This after she lost her fiance in WW1. I do hope this information will be of interest to someone! It has now understandably become my wish to try to identify my Great Grandmother!
