Biography

Warden Flood is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Warden was born in 1892. He was the son of Frederick Flood and Mary Ellen Carey. [1]

In 1912 the Flood family lived at 106 Station Street, Carlton, Victoria.[2] Frederick Flood (Iron Dresser), Ellen Flood (Home Duties), Ernest Flood (Boot Machine Operator) & Alice Flood (Tailoress)

On 6 April 1915 Warden Swift Flood, aged 23, a Chairmaker, next of kin father Frederick Flood, 106 Station Street, Carlton, Victoria. No previous service, enlisted with the 8th Reinforcements, 22nd Infantry Battalion. Described as 5' 10" 12 stone with fresh complexion, blueish brown eyes and brown hair, a Methodist. Declared to be a Deserter from the Clearing Depot, Ascot Vale from 11 January 1916. On 1 June 1916 the Board convened at the Ascot Vale Camp and he was struck off strength.

In 1916 the Flood family lived at 106 Station Street, Carlton, Victoria.[3] Frederick Flood (Iron Dresser), Ellen Flood (Home Duties), Ernest Flood (Boot Machine Operator) & Warden Swift Flood (Chairmaker)

On 10 October 1917 Warden Swift, 24 year old Labourer from 26 Beaumont Crescent, Princess Hill, Victoria, Methodist, enlisted with the 3rd General (Victorian) Reinforcements, Australian Army. He served as a Private with the 39th Australian Infantry Battalion, Regimental number 51711. Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board RMS Orontes on 5 June 1918. He returned to Australia 14 January 1919. Next of kin listed as his mother, Mrs E Flood, 106 Station Street, Carlton, Victoria. Described as 5'10" 140lbs with a sallow complexion, brown eyes and dark hair. In July 1919 he advised the Army he had enlisted under an assumed name (SWIFT) and the records were amended. [4]

In 1931 Frederick Flood (Iron Dresser), wife Ellen Flood (Home Duties) and son Warden Swift Flood (Labourer) lived at 106 Station St, Carlton, Victoria. [5]

He passed away in 1938, aged 44. [6]

FLOOD.—On March 27, at Epworth Hospital. Warden Swift Flood (late 30th Batt., A.I.F.), dearly loved son of Mary Ellen and the late Frederick Flood and loved brother of William, Ernest and Alice, aged 44 years.
FLOOD.— The Friends of tine Into Mr. WARDEN SWIFT FLOOD are respectfully informed that his funeral will leave the residence of his sister, 66 Grattan Street, Carlton THIS DAY (Monday), March 28, at 11 a.m. for the New Melbourne General Cemetery Fawkner.
