Biography

Lawrence's birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1903 in Hartlepool, Durham, England.^[1]

In the 1911 census Lawerance (age 8) was the son of James Forcer at 73 Hermit St Hartlepool, Throston, Durham, England.^[2]

In 1916, his father died, killed in action at the Somme. In 1917 his mother remarried. Lawrence is mentioned in the pension records of both his father and step-father. ^[3][4][5]

At the time of the 1921 census Lawrence (age 19 years and 4 months) was serving with the 2nd Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment in Mosul, then part of Mesopotamia. He is recorded as being a Private, and was single.^[6]

Lawrence's marriage to Hannah R Kerr was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1928 in the Sunderland district.^[7] They had at least one child, Florence born in 1931.

Lawrence's death (age 62) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1964 in the Sunderland district.^[8]

Research notes

Hannah, Florence and a blanked record (presumably another child still living) were living together in the 1939 register^[9]. Lawrence is not with them. It is possible he was still serving with the army. There does not appear to be any army records for him however.
