Havana, Feb. 21.—Elmer A. Shonkwiler and Miss Dora Francis Ford, both popular young people of Bement, in Piatt county, Illinois, were united in marriage at the court house in Havana Monday morning, County Judge J. A. McComas saying the ceremony, in the presence of a few friends, E. P. Nischwitz and S. S. Nortrup being official witnesses. The groom is the young son of Mr. and Mrs. George H.[sic] Shonkwiler of Bement and is a progressive farmer of near that place. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Ford of that city, who has a wide circle of friends. The young couple will make their home on the groom’s farm in Piatt county.

Mrs. Elmer ( Dora ) Shonkwiler, 73, of Bement died 11:15 a.m. Monday in her home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Roux Funeral Home, Bement, where friends may call 3 to 5 and after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Bement Cemetery.

Mrs. Shonkwiler was born in Ingraham. She married Elmer Shonkwiler Feb. 21, 1916, in Havana. He died in January 1957.

Surviving are her sons, Elmer C. and Joseph W., both of Bement; daughter, Mrs. John (Lillie Grace) Kurr of Bement; half-brother, Ernest of Peoria; halfsisters[sic], Mrs. Lillie Shonkwiler of Bement and Mrs. Nellie Mahan of College Place, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

A brother preceded her in death.

Services For Dora Shonkwiler

BEMENT – Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Shonkwiler were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roux Funeral Home with Rev. J. C. Dove officiating. Burial was in Bement Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and after 7 on Tuesday. Memorials are being made to the Baptist Church or to Kirby Annex.

Mrs. Shonkwiler, 73, died at 11:15 a.m. on Monday in her home. She was born November 15, 1900 in Ingraham, Ill. the daughter of Joseph C. and Lottie Butler Ford.

She was married to Elmer A. Shonkwiler on February 21, 1916 in Havana, Illinois. He died in 1957.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. John (Lillie Grace) Kurr, two sons, Elmer C. and Joseph W., all of Bement, 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She also leaves one half-brother, Ernest of Peoria and two half sisters, Mrs. Lillie Shonkwiler of Bement and Mrs. Nellie Mahan of College Place, Washington.

She lived in Bement for sixty years and was a member of the Baptist Church.
