Biography

John was born about 1800 in Ramsgate, Kent, England, the son of John Forwood.

He must have entered into a relationship with widow Sarah Harden (Arden) in 1854, very shortly after her husband's death because she gave birth to their daughter Anne Belinda Forwood in 1855. Unfortunately the baby died in May 1856.

In the following Census, Sarah was listed as the housekeeper for John with 2 children from her first marriage and even though she and John did not marry until 1864, their daughter Annie Belinda Forwood was with them and listed as Anne Harden.

• John Forwood who married to Susannah Fuggle in 1826 were both together in the 1841 Census but by the 1851 Census, they were heads of their own houses in completely different counties:

John was living in Ramsgate, Kent with their son and 2 daughters and listed as MARRIED

Susan was living in Southwark, Surrey with 2 daughters and listed as MARRIED

• There is NO further sign of Susan after 1861 and no obvious sign of John except that he was alive and listed as merchant in 1864 at daughter Adelaide's marriage in Camberwell, Surrey.

• It seems as though the John Forwood who eventually married Sarah Cooper Harden could very well have been the John once married to Susan --- the only problem is that in the 1851 Census he was listed as a coal metre rather than a mariner but maybe he changed professions?
