Susannah Foss (1739)

Biography

Susannah Foss was reportedly born in 1739 in Scarboro, Cumberland, Maine. No source has been identified to corroborate this assertion. However, a Walter Foss, Sr. and his wife Sarah (Babb) Foss, both from New Hampshire, married in New Hampshire and had one child there, then migrated to York, Maine, had a few more children, thence to Scarboro, Cumberland, Maine where most of their children were born. Susannah is not listed among them, although there is a gap between two of the children that would accommodate her 1739 birth. It is entirely possible that Susannah died in infancy, and no further mention was made of her. Of course, I can't find the first mention to begin with. I saw mention of a Foss Family Bible, but couldn't access it. I saw two or three family trees on ancestry.com that included most, if not all, the children mentioned on Walter Foss's profile, but no mention of Susannah. These trees had in common information that seemed, well, wrong, so I am not referencing them.

On the other hand, there is a marriage that took place in Scarboro on 3 May 1763 between one Obadiah Fitts and Susannah Foss.^[1] Further, there is an entry in Scarboro (needs checking as to location) about the drowning death of a Mr. Fitts in Jan 1796.^[2] Whether these two people represent Susannah and her husband is very uncertain and needs corroboration or clarification.

None of the FindAGrave Memorials created for members of the Walter Foss family mention Susannah.
