Elizabeth was born in 1849. She died in 1892 at the age of 42.

Elizabeth C (Cynthia Foss) Gorbet was born February 28, 1849 to John and Margaret Foss. She was married on October 10, 1865 in Ripley, Jennings County, Indiana to Benjamin F Gorbet.

The tombstone of Elizabeth has been engraved as wife of "B T", not "B F". This has added considerable confusion as to Benjamin's correct middle name. But a thorough analysis of all available documentation shows his name to be Benjamin Franklin Gorbet.

Before their marriage Benjamin served as a member of Company D, 35th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. His obit stated that in 1876, the family moved to Lawrence County, settling on a farm in Lukin township. A son, John, stated on his marriage record that he had been born in Jackson Co, Indiana in 1879. The family was living in Lukin township by 1880 but they might have moved before Elizabeth's death. Nancy, a daughter, born in 1886, stated that her birthplace was Lawrenceville, while another daughter, Lillie, stated that she had been born in Wabash County, Illinois in 1889.

Elizabeth C's death occurred on February 16, 1892, at age 42 years, 11 months, 16 days. She was buried at Ridgley Cemetery near her young son, George Gorbet. No obit or death record has been found for her. Lawrence County Illinois Historical Society.
