Biography

Sarah was born in 1774. She was the daughter of Edward Foster and Phebe Pierce. She passed away in 1820.

Children

Joel Barker and his wife Sarah Foster had eight children whose births are recorded at Milford.[1]

i JOEL BARKER, b. 14 Nov 1794; d. at Milford, 10 Feb 1879; m. 15 May 1829, SARAH W. WHITNEY, b. at Marlborough, NH, 28 Apr 1799 daughter of Benjamin and Nancy (Fuller) Whitney; Sarah d. at Milford 23 Jun 1887.

ii SARAH “SALLY” BARKER, b. 9 Jul 1797; d. at Merrimack, 11 Apr 1865; m. 13 Nov 1827, AARON HOOD, b. at Nashua about 1797 son of Aaron and Hannah (Richardson) Hood; Aaron d. at Merrimack, 6 Dec 1874. After Sarah’s death, Aaron married Sally Davis 7 Dec 1865.[2]

iii MARY “POLLY” BARKER, b. 6 Mar 1800; d. at Nashua, 6 Mar 1860; m. 25 Dec 1832, HIRAM WHEELER, b. at Merrimack, about 1800 son of Reuben and Mary (Conant) Wheeler; Reuben d. at Nashville, NH, about 1849 (will dated 30 May 1849). Mary and Hiram do not seem to have children that lived past infancy (there may be two children who died as young infants). Hiram’s will mentions his father Reuben, brother Gilman, and leaves the estate to wife Mary B. Wheeler.[3] Mary seems to have remarried to Mr. Tinker after Hiram’s death as evidenced by the bequest in the will of her brother James to Mary B. Tinker.

iv BENJAMIN BARKER, b. 8 Aug 1802; d. at Milford, 6 Oct 1843 (will dated 23 Aug 1843); m. about 1835, as her second husband, ALMA AVERILL, b. about 1796 daughter of Ebenezer and Anna (Johnson) Averill; Alma d. 3 Aug 1855. Alma was first married to Daniel Johnson. Benjamin and Alma did not have children. Alma had one son from her first marriage.

v JOHN BARKER, b. 23 Sep 1805; d. at Milford, 14 Aug 1845; m. 22 Dec 1840, MARTHA WOOLSON, b. at Milford, 28 Aug 1800 daughter of David and Sarah (Crosby) Woolson; Martha d. at Quincy, 10 Jan 1879.

vi JAMES BARKER, b. 28 Jun 1808; d. at Milford, 7 Oct 1859. James was a cooper. He did not marry. James wrote his will 27 Sep 1859. The will includes bequests to brother Joel Barker, sister Sarah B. Hood, sister Mary B. Tinker, and sister Hannah B. Spaulding.[4]

vii HANNAH BARKER, b. 15 Jul 1810; d. at Salisbury, MA, 19 Jul 1887; m. 18 Dec 1838, her first cousin, BENJAMIN SPAULDING, b. at Hollis, 27 Aug 1800 son of Jacob and Mary (Barker) Spaulding; Benjamin d. at Salisbury, 29 Mar 1892.

viii NANCY BARKER, b. 18 Jul 1812; d. Feb 1835.
