Alkman was born in 1843. He was the son of Thomas Foster-Barham and Margaret Henryson. He passed away in 1899. He married 30 December 1872 at the 11th Arrondissement and afterwards at the English Church, Rue d'Aguesau, Paris to Nannie Olivia, only child and heir of Hugh Howard Ellis of Philadelphia, U.S.A. and had issue:
