I suspect John Foy's father may have also been Captain John Foy or perhaps from an earlier(?) Boston progeniter: In 1690 Elizabeth, daughter of Captain John Foy of Boston, a "well known Boston shipmaster" married the well known Cyprian Southack also of Boston. There's quite a bit of information about Southack's life, in this Massachusetts Historical Society source, in case any descendants are interested.
