They had one child together, Frederick, before Amelia died in 1848.
In the 1851 census, John and Frederick were recorded in the home of John's parents in Great Bricett, Suffolk. John was working as an agricultural labourer, as were his father and brothers.[3]
In the 1861 census, John and Eliza were recorded with their children (near Maskell's Hall) at Offton, Suffolk.[5]
Eliza died in 1868.
In the 1871 census, John was recorded in the home of his sister Sarah Green at Pye Lane, Great Bricett. With him were four of his children, Thomas, Allen, Sarah and Henry.[6]
In the 1881 census, John and Caroline were recorded with John's children, Ellen and Henry at Offton. Also with them, were Caroline's nephew and niece, Samuel and Sarah Eastaugh/Easter. Next door was his son Thomas and his wife Harriett.[8]
In the 1891 census, John, Caroline and son Henry were recorded at Offton. With them was a lodger, wheelwright Freeman Downs from Gessingthorp.[9]
