Biography
Patriarch Freeman was born about 1600, most likely in or near Shotley, Suffolk, England. His given name is unknown. Patriarch Freeman is being added in order to link brothers Andrew and Samuel Freeman of Shotley, Suffolk, England. Both Andrew and Samuel were 17th century cordwainers, or fine leather shoemakers. Shotley Parish Registers exist to 1611. then there is a gap in the records until 1644.[1] Samuel and Andrew Freeman were born inside this gap.
Andrew Freeman was the father of John Freeman, who was born in 1650.[2] He also had children named Andrew, William and Susan.
Samuel Freeman was the father of John Freeman, who was born about 1651.[3] He also had children named Andrew, Daniel, Nathaniel, Samuel and Mary.
Research Note
There is a book of Suffolk guild records that might have more information about the Freeman men who were cordwainers in Shotley, Suffolk, England.[4] Unfortunately, that 87 page book was searched and there are no names of members of guilds in that book.
