Biography
Ethel French, born in 1886, was the daughter of Frederick H. French and Emily Mccready.[1][2] She married Alfred Mills, the co-owner of a Sarnia, Ontario clothing store, in 1909 and they had one daughter, Pauline.[3][4]
After Fred's death in 1938, Ethel continued running part of the family business for another decade. A Sarnia obituary described her as a “community worker, businesswoman and music lover.” She was the first female president of the Lambton County Music Festival, served as the chair of the Sarnia Board of Education for over twenty years and was a director of the Children's Aid Society.[5]
Ethel died in 1968 in Toronto.[6]
