Eva Frey was born on 24 May 1882 n Neudorf, Glückstal Colony/District, Kherson, Russian Empire to Martin Frey and Margaretha Elhasser.[1]
The colony of Neudorf was founded in 1809 by 100 German families immigrating primarily from Württemberg and Alsace upon the invitation of Alexander I, Czar of Russia, grandson of Catherine the Great
When naming the new colony, Councillor Rosenhampf commented on the beautiful setting and said, "We are not going to build a city, but only a village. It shall be called Neudorf."
When the German colonists arrived in the early 1800's they found 3 isolated farms (Khutors), three wells and one dessiatine of vineyards on the steppe. The settlers received a total of 91,424 rubles from the Imperial Crown for subsistence, settlement and seed. By 1848, the village increased to 208 families and to 1,896 individuals by 1914.
After the Germans left the village in the late 1800's and early 1900's, the village was renamed Karmanova.
Eva FREY (FRY) (Maiden name) moved to USA - Harvey, ND with her Mother and siblings.
In 1899 she met and married John Kirschman.
The couple resided in Marion, ND until moving to Canada in 1903 settling on a homestead in Woodrow Saskatchewan district.
They continued to farm there, later moving to Pashley, Alberta, in 1912 where they resided before moving to Melville, Saskatchewan.
There Mr. Kirschman died in 1923.
Later Mrs Kirschman married John BrandStatter who died in 1951.
Following his death she moved to Medicine Hat where she was married to Frederick Anhorn, 24th of May 1952.
She resided here until her husbands death in May of 1956 and later made her home with her daughter Mrs Leona Jesske until her recent death.
She was a member of the Memorial EUB Church (United Brethren Church) Mrs Anhorn was predeceased by one daughter, Caroline (Mrs. Wm. Johnson) in 1953.
Surviving are four sons: John Kirschman of Balmoral, Manitoba. Chris Kirshman of Canna, Saskatchewan, Jonna Kirschenmann of Fitzmaurice, Saskatchewan and Daniel of Hamilton, Ontario. Four daughters: Margaret (Mrs J Bender) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Christine (Mrs H. Smith) of Hamilton, Ontario; Eva (Mrs C Waterfield) of Regina, Saskatchewan and Leona (Mrs E. Jeske) of Medicine Hat, Alberta. 36 Grandchildren and 63 Great Grandchildren.
