Biography

Sarah Fripp was born on Saturday, 22 August 1789 and was baptised on 20 September 1789 in the Maudlin (Moravian) Street Chapel, Bristol, Gloucester^[1]. She was the second daughter of Samuel Fripp and Dorothy Bowles.

Her father Samuel died on 29 December 1810 at age 55.

She married Matthew Bridges on 23 April 1823 in St. James's Church, Bristol, by Llicence:

On Wednesday last, at St. James's church, by the Rev. Dr, Bridges, Mr. Matthew Bridges, solicitor, to Sarah, second daughter of the late Samuel Fripp, Esq.^[2]

They went on to have the following children:

1. Sarah Bridges (b. 17 Feb 1827, bapt. 14 May 1827)
2. Jemima Anne Bridges (b. 27 Oct 1827, bapt. 29 Jan 1831, d. 30 Sep 1910 unm)
3. Anna Maria Bridges (b. 22 Jan 1829, bapt. 22 May 1829, d. 1909 unm)
4. Unnamed son Bridges (b. 27 Mar 1832, d. 10 Apr 1832)
5. Frances Elizabeth Bridges (b. 29 Oct 1834, d. 21 Jan 1921 unm)

In the 1861 England Census, Sarah Bridges (aged 61) was recorded living with her husband Matthew Bridges (50) and their three daughters Sarah Bridges (24), Anna Maria Bridges (22) and Francis Elizabeth Bridges (16) at Chester Hill, Woodchester, Gloucestershire. Also in the household was one visitor and three servants.

Sarah Bridges passed away in 1857^[3].

Hereford Journal dated 17 June 1857, page 4:

June 13, aged 67, Sarah, the beloved wife of Matthew Bridges, Esq., of Chester-hill-house, Gloucestershire.^[4]
