Son of Judge John Frothingham of the Massachusetts Superior Court and his wife Martha.[1]
He moved to Montreal in 1809 to open a branch of Samuel May in Boston. He cofounded Frothingham and Workman, a wholesale hardware business in Montreal, in 1836.[2]
