Ann Hatton was born around March 1802 in the Village of North Hayling, Parish of North Hayling, five miles east of the major City of Portsmouth, and two miles south-west of the West Sussex border, on the Island of Hayling, District of Havant, in Hampshire, England. She was the natural born daughter, of Elizabeth (Froud) and her father's name isn't recorded.
Her baptism takes place on the 11 April 1802 at the Parish Church of Saint Peter, St. Peter's Road, in the Village of North Hayling, Parish of North Hayling, five miles east of the major City of Portsmouth, and two miles south-west of the West Sussex border, on the Island of Hayling, District of Havant, in Hampshire, England[1].
William (Barber) marries Ann Hatton (Froud) on the 20 June 1822 at the Parish Church of Saint Peter, St. Peter's Road, in the Village of North Hayling, Parish of North Hayling, five miles east of the major City of Portsmouth, and two miles south-west of the West Sussex border, on the Island of Hayling, District of Havant, in Hampshire, England.
We find Ann Hatton (Froud) married to William (Barber) in the Census Record of 1841. They live at at Eastock House, in the Village of South Hayling, Parish of Portsmouth, five miles east of the major City of Portsmouth, and two miles south-west of the West Sussex border, on the Island of Hayling, District of Havant, in Hampshire, England. Their children William, Mary Ann, Frances Ann, Louisa, Matilda, Edward, Martha, Henry and George (Barber) reside with them[3]. The family are still in the Village of South Hayling, District of Havant, Hampshire with the Census Record of 1851. William and Ann reside there with children Edward, Martha, Henry "Harry", George, Richard and James (Barber)[4].
Unfortunately, the Census Record of 1861 brings with it bad news in that Ann has lost her husband William (Barber) and is living as a widow with children Henry, George, Richard and James (Barber). They reside at Selsmare Lane, in the Village of South Hayling, Havant, Hampshire, England[5]. Only Richard (Barber) remains living with her in the Census Record of 1871 and their address is Rails Lane, in South Hayling, Havant, Hampshire, England[6].
With the arrival of the Census Record of 1881, she is lodging with widow, Mary (Whitton); Mary's children Frederick W., Rosina and Emma (Whitton); Boarder, Ellen (Stone) and Ann's widowed daughter Mary Ann (Barber/Oakley). Their residence is located at 14 Bevois Street, in the City of Southampton, Parish of Southampton St. Mary, in Hampshire, England. Also, Ann is recorded on the Census as being Blind[7].
The Census of 1861 records her occupation as being a Pauper.
Ann Hatton (Froud) passes away between October and December 1882, possibly at 14 Bevois Street, in the City of Southampton, Parish of Southampton St. Mary, in Hampshire, England. Her Death Certificate puts her age at 82 but she was closer to 80 years old at the time. The cause of death would probably be attributed to Old Age and/or Senile Decay[8].
