Biography

Johannes "Johann" Günther (1803-1863)

married Elisabetha Oster (1803-1860), children

occupation: Privatförster [private ranger or game warden]

Family story:

Kaiser's game warden or hunting master (Jägermeister/Wildmeister) in the Schwartzwald (Black Forest) area, operated hunting lodge/inn where the Kaiser (Wilhelm II, father Frederick III, and grandfather Wilhelm I) made annual hunting excursions with guests including his cousin, the Czar of Russia.
(The Schwarzwald (Black Forest) is about 100 miles long. It is not certain if the inn was owned by our family or if they just managed/operated it for the Hohenzollern family or another royal or noble family. I am researching to try and identify/locate this inn based upon the few items passed on within family stories.)

Pfalz, Bayern

Pfalz (the Palatinate) became a province of Bayern (Bavaria) as French power declined after 1815, until 1918. After World War I, French troops again occupied the Palatinate for several years. It is now the Staat of Rheinland-Pfalz (state of Rheinland-Palatinate).
