Biography
John Gabriel was born in Barnstaple, Devon and baptised there on 24 May 1826, his parents were William Gabriel, a plumber and brazier of Green Lane, and his wife Sarah. [1]
In 1841, John was living with his parents and siblings in Barnstaple Gaol, where his father was employed as an assistant keeper[2]
