Biography

John Gaffney was born in County Durham, England.

John Lawrence Gaffney, son of James Gaffney and Mary Oliver, was born in Durham, England on 5 May 1928. ^[1] The youngest of four children, John spent his childhood living at 4 Lascelles Street in Marylebone, London. At the time of the 1939 Census, John was going to school, while his father and older brother were both unemployed. It was undoubtedly hard for the family during this time. ^[2]

John married May Punchard in St Albans, Hertfordshire at the end of 1949. ^[3] It is not known if the couple had any children. John died towards the end of 1994 in Hatfield, aged just 66. ^[4]
