Biography

Alice was born in 1886 to John and Evelyn "Eva" Goodrich Garvin. She was the second of their five children. He father, a Methodist minister, passed away when she was 15.

She married Carl J. Much on 22 Nov 1908. They had two children-Alicia Maxine and Carl, Jr. The Muchs ran a grocery store in Berlin, Wisconsin for 45 years, until about 1950. They were well known for their charity, especially during the Depression.

Carl passed away in 1970 after a long illness. Alice's youngest sister Angie moved from Seattle back to Berlin to help during his illness. She stayed and in their later years, Alice and Angie were neighbors in an apartment complex, each taking a turn on the stationary bicycle and going for a walk every morning.

She passed away in 1993.

Alice and Carl ran a grocery store, and during the Great Depression, it was not out of character for them to "sell" groceries in exchange for fresh eggs or produce, or on credit that was never satisfied. They were very caring members of their community.
