Eliza was born on the 28th April 1882 in Prestwich, Manchester, Lancashire, England. She was the daughter of Thomas Geterick and Emily Austin, ^[1]

in 1891 her family were living in Birmingham Thomas was an Indian Rubber Maker, Emily had no occupation listed, Martha was a Warehouse girl, Emily, Eliza and Clara were all scholars, and Nellie and Lily were below school age, ^[2]

In 1901 her family were living at 40A Mansfield Road, Emily had no occupation listed, Eliza was a Pen Grinder, Clara was a Dressmaker, Nellie was a Shirtmaker and Lily was a scholar. ^[3]

She married Walter Cupples on the 31st March 1902, at St Matthias, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Walter was 20 and a Tool Maker living at 87 Well Street and Eliza was 19 and living at 118 Great King Street. The witnesses were Clara Geterick and William Beford (?). They had 20 children ^[4]
