Biography
John's unknown first wife was born about 1774 and passed away in about 1824.Her maiden name was believed to have been Gibson, based only on her second known son being named Gibson Martin Winslett and her grandson by a different son being named John Gibson Winslett. John Carson Winslett was still married to her when he began having children with his future wife Hattie Ward.
Research Notes
No records have been found to prove her name. Online unsourced trees erroneously state she was Elizabeth McSwain based only on an Elizabeth (Smith) McSwain -- born 15 years after John's wife was born -- dying in Henry Co, AL in 1824 -- after which John married had already married Hattie Ward in 1825. Some researchers believe her maiden name was Martin based on the middle name of her son.
