John Gibson was born at Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, on 13 August 1830.[1] He was the son of Archibald Gibson and Ann McNeil.
He married Jean Ballantyne at Paisley Low Church on 31 December 1850.[2] They had seven children together.
At the 1851 census they were probably living at 12 Saucel, Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire.[3]
In 1858 the family migrated to New South Wales via the ship Daphne, which arrived 16 January 1859. On board were John (29) & Jane (30), and their children Anne (7), Mary (5), and John McNeil Gibson (2).[4]
He died at Port Douglas, Queensland, in 1885,[5] and was buried in the Port Douglas Cemetery.[6]
Research Notes
Death registration has date as 24 July, headstone has 27 July. Possibly an error as it looks like it was put up many years later.
